Sword Of Xolan Review
A pretty good platformer game. But an issue that I have experienced throughout is that when I enter a new level, the prisoners are freed without me doing anything. Once I finish that level, it restarts and I have to do it again, even though I have completed it previously a few seconds ago. I don't find that fun because it restarts a mission that I have already completed. Also the sword doesn't seem to be that effective because when I hit enemies or boxes, it doesn't register that well.
I enjoyed playing this game and highly recommend it! The art is attractive, music fits the environments and doesn't become distracting. The enemies each present their own challenges as well the levels gradually getting harder. I was able to unlock every achievement the game provides, a couple were fairly challenging to get which added to the replayability. I definitely could for see and hope that a sequel is developed to continue the Xolan storyline.
Not at all a bad platformer, the controls are surprisingly tight and responsive, the story is minimal but gets the job done, and the ability cards are an interesting idea. However, the amount of times I was damaged or killed by something I couldn't see offscreen was frankly... ridiculous. And sometimes the hitboxes for things like the character and projectiles were kind of wonky, and the attack animations for the sword seem shorter than its actual range. Recommended, but expect some weirdness.
