Sqube Darkness Review
Ad ad ad ad ad ad ad. You run too many goddam ads. I've never said that to any other developer. The very first start button? Ad. Never played before so controls are awkward. You die. A lot. In seconds. Continue button? (shows little "ad" icon). Reset button? No "ad" icon. But you get a 30 second ad anyway. And no timer to click past it. Nobody is ever gonna get good at this game. 3 to 10 seconds of play, then 30 seconds of ad? Who has that kind of patience? Uninstalled.
This game had a very neat concept but is completely ruined by the ads. You get an ad when you; start a new run, die in a run (regardless of if you pick the second life or not, the second life costs an ad), go to main menu, and even just during normal gameplay. You even get unskippable audio only ads while seeing a different ad. It's all just too much for too little. Shame such an interesting gameplay mechanic is wasted here on what is essentially a commercial break.
Good concept, look, and mechanics, with unresponsive controls, but the main problem arises with the fact that the title screen has an ad and during the gameplay there's a banner ad in a corner and has an ad that plays sound that stays on the options screen not to mention the fact that every button press springs an ad. Also, the devs don't care about the money hungry nature and brush off anyone raising concerns, and for some reason, the internet has to be on to play a single-player game 🤨
