Game Dev Tycoon Review
I want to like it but the flaws are too serious. First, the way ratings work is unintuitive and arbitrary. You basically either have to go to the wiki and find the formulas or you bumble through with no idea how to raise your scores. When you make your own console, the best game genres for your consoles are the ones you have used the LEAST. What game company is going to make a console that doesn't play to their strengths? Be prepared to turn to the wiki often or be frustrated.
Deserves 5 stars, but with caveats. It's a phenomenal game, but just know that if you have an understanding of video game history (especially what consoles were successful vs. unsuccessful) the game will be easy to predict. It closely follows real gaming history, which can unintentionally "spoil" some of the challenge. So, once you've played, you know the progression pattern, hurting replayability. What if the game also contained a campaign that was fictional and deviated from real history?
Relaxing yet addictive. This game requires logic as well as trial and error. It is simple in its graphics and concept, but still quite enjoyable. A great choice for someone who wants something relaxing to play for a few moments here and there throughout the day. Quick to pick up, and simple (though not easy) to put down if your attention is needed elsewhere.
