Battle Chasers: Nightwar Codes review

42 hours invested, gotta say it's a stellar game. Love the battle system, the characters, the art, animations, the plot. I could criticize that it runs out of steam halfway through, but that's just me wishing they could've added more character development and side quests. It's because I enjoyed the game that much, I suppose. Fishing is not worth it. Gully is the MVP. Need more taunt. Potions are rarely necessary. Hub was a bit lifeless after sewer quests. Still, hoping for a sequel.

I've had this a long time and never gave it a chance. I tried to play the beginning a few times and got bored. The overcharge system seemed flawed... at first. Power through it, because the gameplay completely changes in pace. You unlock perks that change how they play. The robot has a perk that makes your entire party heal during their first 3 turns of a battle. The girl can create a shield when she attacks. The dynamic changes in pacing and structure. -1* for the very slow movement speed.

Fun gameplay, JRPG style, starring a comic book cast. Overall well drawn and well animated, and controls smoothly. I originally had a lot of issues with the game crashing and losing lots of progress to the point I gave up in frustration, but I'm pleased to see some of the issues have been addressed. It still crashes, though not nearly as frequently, and when it does, the dungeon does not reset. It seems the game auto saves much more often now--a welcome change. Anyway, it's playable now!
